Julia May (Crowley) Sorensen, age 92, passed away at her son Kevin Sorensen's home in Letha, Idaho on April 18, 2024.
She was born to Ariel and Daveda Crowley on July 8 1931 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and has one sister, Barbara (Crowley) Johnson, surviving her.
Julia lived in Idaho, Oregon and California as a child. She was a talented musician, composer, instrumentalist and vocalist, as well as an artist and non-stop student. Intelligent but shy, she loved word games, reading, pets and her children.
She met William "Kenneth" Sorensen at BYU Academy, and they were sealed in the Logan Temple just prior to Ken being drafted into the army for the Korean war. He survived, and together they created a family of eleven very musical children. Those children have now expanded into families of 58 grandchildren, 128 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren across the United States, and in Japan and England.
Julia and Ken served service missions together, and Julia served as accompanist, chorister, and in the Primary, Relief Society, Seminary and other callings at church. However, Ken passed away quite unexpectedly in 2006, leaving her a widow for 18 years. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Shelley (Craige Stone), a granddaughter Amber Stone, and grandsons Richard and Matthew Sorensen.
She is also survived by 10 of her 11 children and their growing families: Jared (Jeannie) Sorensen, Kerry (Lauralee) Sorensen, Kevin (Mary) Sorensen, Trisha (David) Sloan, Erica (Alden) Cabacungan, Jeffrey (Kathy) Sorensen, (Craige and Jackie Stone), Meredith (Alberto) Vasquez, Ariel (Jennifer) Sorensen, Scott (Christine) Sorensen, and David (Mina) Sorensen.
Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Letha, Idaho on Saturday, April 27th at 9:00 a.m. Services will be livestreamed and may be watched at your convenience on Julia's obituary page at www.potterchapel.com. She will be buried at the Bramwell Cemetery next to her husband.
